12-Month Wellbeing & Integration Project

Swimming 4 Newly Arrived

A 12-month wellbeing and integration project run by Point of Growth in Greater Manchester, designed to support the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of newly arrived young male immigrants and asylum seekers. The project provides free, weekly swimming sessions in a safe and welcoming environment, helping participants build confidence, improve mental health, and develop essential life skills.

Many newly arrived young men face isolation, financial barriers, and limited access to recreational activities. This project removes those barriers by offering structured, culturally sensitive swimming lessons at no cost. Running from May 2025 to May 2026, the programme supports male asylum seekers and newly arrived immigrants aged 14 and above living in Manchester and Oldham. Sessions are led by qualified, DBS-checked instructors and supported by trained volunteers, with multilingual support available to ensure accessibility.

Beyond health and fitness, the project encourages social connection, confidence-building, and integration. Participants are supported to form friendships, reduce isolation, and, where possible, explore future opportunities in swimming, lifeguarding, or coaching — opening pathways to training and employment in sports and leisure. The project is proudly supported by National Lottery funding, through Sport England's Movement Fund, helping ensure that young newcomers can thrive, belong, and build a healthier future in the UK.
